Larry Gene
Moran
Mar 8, 1951 — Oct 7, 2025
O B I T U A R Y
Larry Gene Moran of Greensburg, Kentucky, son of the late Rural Moran and Maydell Oakes Moran, was born at home on Thursday, March 8, 1951 in Green County and departed this life on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at Hosparus Health Inpatient Facility in Louisville. He was 74 years, 6 months, and 30 days of age.
He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was baptized at an early age in Russell Creek. Larry was a member of Greensburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church, but said he was always a Baptist at heart.
Larry was a United States Army veteran having served at Ft. Hamilton, New York as a military policeman from 1971-1973. He was proud to be a veteran and to have served his country honorably. He was a proud member of American Legion Rod Lowe Post #124 and a member of the Sons of the American Legion.
Larry continued his law enforcement career when he was discharged from the Army by serving as a Greensburg City Police Officer for ten years. Larry joined Kentucky Water Patrol in 1984 and patrolled Green River Lake until becoming a Law Enforcement Officer with Fish and Wildlife from which he retired in 2006.
He was a member of the Central Kentucky Lodge #22 of the Fraternal Order of Police and a member of the Greensburg Masonic Lodge #54 F&AM.
Larry loved the water and was an avid fisherman as proven by the four largemouth bass mounted in his garage or "man cave". He loved to go to Lake Weiss in Centre, Alabama to fish for bass and was finally able to convince Sandi to join him on these trips. Until recent years, he enjoyed cooking in his garage for a yearly fish fry for neighbors and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sandra "Sandi" Darnell Moran, having united in marriage on August 16, 1969.
Other survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Erin Beth and Zac Hickerson of Louisville, who he always called Beth and who had him wrapped around her little finger.
His pride and joy have been his two grandchildren, Emma Hickerson and Peyton Hickerson, who he loved to watch in their various athletic and school events by traveling to Louisville on a weekly basis, as well as, out of state for soccer and track. In recent years, he could not always walk to the field but was waiting in the vehicle to hear the results and to get a kiss and hug.
He is also survived by one brother: Ronnie Moran of Greensburg; a sister-in-law: Vicki Darnell of Greensburg; nieces and nephews: Buffy and Jay Scantland, Tim and Kim Darnell all of Greensburg; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister-in-law: Colleen Moran.
